GAME CHANGERS is a program designed to enhance the resilience and wellbeing of emerging leaders in secondary school.
Playing games is an excellent way to build cross-age friendships and develop communication, engagement and leadership skills.
In a nutshell, it’s a great tool to strengthen a resilient school culture.
GAME CHANGERS is a full one-day onsite (at your school) training program for up to twenty-five (25) Year 9/10 student leaders. Through the program training, school Student Leaders learn how to facilitate safe and fun team-building and problem-solving games for younger students.
The program provides a platform for students to support each other, take responsibility and develop their leadership abilities by conducting team-building activities with younger students.
The GAME CHANGERS program both directly and indirectly supports teachers to meet many of the General Capabilities in the Australian Curriculum, specifically covering the Personal and Social Capability domain.
The GAME CHANGERS program was designed and developed by Scott Jennens and Sally Prickett, as a result of many years working with disengaged students through the Leaps and Bounds facility in Bayswater. GAME CHANGERS has proven to be a popular and highly effective transition program that can reinforce positive relationships and a practical resilient culture in your school. Please contact us for more information.
How does the GAME CHANGERS program build resilience?
It builds student empowerment
It reduces the incidence of bullying
It creates a sense of belonging for both the leaders and younger students
Students learn the importance of positive values
It teaches the value of rules and responsibility in team building activities
GAME CHANGERS: A year long school program
Participating schools are provided with a toolkit that guides them through the process of selecting student leaders and any ongoing questions around the management of the program. On the day our two experienced trainers will come into your school to deliver the program. Resilient Youth GAME CHANGERS trainers have current VIT teacher registration and/or Working with Children Checks.
The focus for the morning session is to introduce the program and interactively train students on some of the activities and the skills they will need to run the GAME CHANGERS program in their school. The afternoon session is practical and involves student leaders facilitating some of the games they have learnt with a group of younger students under the supervision and guidance of our experienced trainers.
By the end of the day your GAME CHANGER student leaders will have the confidence to continue running this program to enhance the teamwork and sense of belonging of the younger students.
Playing games encourages imagination, develops sequencing skills, communication and increases the potential to develop through experiential learning.
